I recently got this as a birthday present and watched it last night and i can honestly say this is one of the greatest films of all time:
Kubrick's cinematography is incredible throughout and is particularly good at creating those moments that really make you feel emotions for the characters. Then there's the sound and picture quality which have been digitally remastered for blu ray and play in 1080p and 5.1 surround sound. This really immerses you in the film, and the picture looks stunning as the bright fires create wonderful orange glows against the dull greys of the destroyed buildings you will see so often in this film.
The film is split in to two parts: training and deployment. i dont want to ruin anything for you, but when so much of hollywood today is just repetition, filled with shallow characters, its really nice to see a film where you will feel some genuine emotions that make you hate some characters and pity others.
Every aspect of the production is of a very high standard, with convincing actors, genuine and realistic scenes and to top it off, a great soundtrack including Surfin Bird (made even more famous by Peter singing it in Family Guy) and the Rolling Stones.
In short; this is one of the best war films ever made. (to give you an idea of how good this is, on rotton tomatoes, saving private ryan is 91% and this is 97%!)
A MUST BUY!!!
