Thor was a very hard movie to get to grips with.
The film starts with the story of Asguard fighting a war against the Frost Giants, after winning the war and declaring a truce between the two races 3 Frost Gianbts break into Asguard just as Thor is about to be crowned king, interrupting his ceremony. They were after an ancient aterfact Odin (Thor's Father and King of Asguard) had taken after winning the war.
Thor see's this as an act of War and travels to the Frost Giant realm to demand an explanation. He goes along with his 4 best friends and warriors and his Brother Loki!
The Frost Giants don't take kindly to Thor's intrusion and a massive fight beggins.
This fight was about 10mins in and was a hell of a way to get you hooked. Thor's use of the Hammer is spot on if not better than how he used it in the original comics and cartoon!
The graphics are crazy, from giant guard dogs to the floor caving in you cant take yours eyes off of the screen.
After being outnumbered Odin appears to save Thor and the others, the king of the Frost Giants declares war on Asguard as he can see the king is weak in his age.
When they return to Asguard Odin tells Thor that he will not be made king and that he has much to learn before he will get the throne. For breaking Odin's law he is banished to Earth and his powers stripped from him.
Its hard to write this review without giving too much away so i apologise if its a bit vague.
Those who know of Thor know that Loki is only Thor's Step-Brother. After the king gets weaker and enters a deep sleep Loki takes the throne and plans to allow the Frost Giants into Asguard.
Whilst on Earth Thor learns a lot of valuable lessons, this however does take up a big chunk of the movie. So generally theres a lot of action at the beginning and end but not so much in the middle. However they do a great job of working Thor's story into the Marvel Universe and prepping it to be part of the Avengers Story. As the idea of Super People, Mutants and Gods from a another realm is a hard foundation to build on.
An expert archer is seen in the movie who is played by Jemery Renner (SWAT, Hurt Locker). This archer is Hawkeye, one of the Avengers, so there worming in all the characters so people will know who they are. I also beleive a Human Thor fights half way through the movie is Luke Cage, another Avenger! But thats my speculation. Bruce Banner is also referenced at somepoint in the movie.
Altogther i'd say it was a great movie, they built the story perfectly and the fight scenes were awesome! They throw in an awful lot of comedy but it worked nicely.
We can expect Thor back in the Avengers in May 2012 (filming has begun)
Acting: 8/10
Graphics: 10/10
Action: 9/10
Story: 10/10
Overall: 9/10
As always with Marvel Movies, stick around for the post credit clip!
Sorry about the vague review, its so hard not giving the story away to this movie.
Also some marvel movie facts for ya, at the End of Iron Man 2 when Stark is talking to Nick Fury on the screens behind you can see some clips of a college campus being destroyed, this is refence to the hulk and also there's a clip of Thor landing in the desert the screens.
This means Iron Man 2 was based around the same time as all theses events, meaning in Hulk when is gets startled by the lightning and throws that boulder, Its the storm that brings Thor to Earth!
