Second 'Modern Warfare 2' map pack planned for late 2010
Activision says a second map pack is under development for the first-person shooter Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
In a quarterly earnings call, the publisher's chief operating officer, Thomas Tippl, says the downloadable content will be available in late 2010.
As with the original package, studio Infinity Ward will develop the second set of maps.
Activision did not disclose pricing details. The first DLC, titled Stimulus Package, sold on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 for $14.99.
The first piece of DLC featured five new maps, two of which were featured in 2007's Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Although the high price tag deterred some players, it didn't stop the DLC from notching 2.5 million downloads in its first week.
Players' hunger for Call of Duty related map packs in general seems insatiable, according to data unveiled by Activision. The publisher says they have sold 17 million map packs for the Call of Duty franchise to date, not counting the recent release on PC and PlayStation 3.
And players can't seem to get enough of Modern Warfare 2 in particular. Since the game launched in November, players have spent an astounding 1.75 billion hours on the game's online multiplayer, says Activision.
