Megapixels are for digital photographs These are digital photographs mate, and to an extent it does, higher the megapixel, higher the resolution, so if your trying to get them printed, higher megapixels do come into factor, but yeah your correct about the lens to, its mechanics its incomparable to a standard point and shoot digital camera.
