| I never thought that my first post in this forum would have YLOD as a title. On Thursday my PS3 died. My son thought he'd broken it - I just got annoyed and started trawling the web with the help of J5 to find out how to fix it, or what to do about it!! This seemed like the way forward. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_Ic1_TY-GU - Part 1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vr1zyAGwnuU&NR=1 - Part 2 Friday came and with help from Johnny bloke we ripped the PS3 apart. A brave thing to do while crying! Following this guide to the letter the PS3 was soon in bits. A visit to homebase for a heatgun and a large coffee....... I never thought I would (and was a bit scared to) attack the system board with 500 degrees of heat. Left to cool for 20 mins. Again, following the to the letter, but backwards we rebuilt the PS3. Moment of truth - power on. IT FECKIN WORKS AGAIN!!!! Couldn't believe it. But it does. In the next few months (cos I don't know how long it'll last) I guess it'll be trade in! And lose PS2 games.... Any thoughts? FAT 80GB PS3 with otherOS or slim 250GB?!?! | |

| My ps3 keeps slowing down and freezing more frequently but my ps3 has not warranty sticker, therefore no warranty, i'd smash the bastard to bits if it breaks just as i get MW2 | |

| Best thing to do before it does die is redo the thermal compound on the processors. From what I've seen so far on 2 ps3's that are 2 years old, the compound goes solid and is therefore not up to the job of cooling the processors enough - would explain the freezing. I've now traded mine in - Got a new 250GB slim PS3 with extended 3 years warranty. Should see me through the MW2 years to come. | |

| I traded mine in as did pooooopong..... We both had the 60GB original versions. We got £150 trade in for it. So had to pay £140 hard cash. They also gave use 2 of the newer games (FLASHPOINT & INFAMOUS) as well, as we took the 3 years warranty with them, that cost an extra £30. So a grand total of £170 with peace of mind for 3 years. That covers accidental damage of the console and controllers.
So I told my next door neighbour what we had done... he deceided to trade his in.... the 2 games het got was UNCHARTED 2 and BRUTAL LEGEND. Same deal £170 with 3 years.
Hope this helps | |

| I might trade mine in the new years and pay the difference for a slim, but JB told me he got the yellow light, and still got £220 on trade in! Get £80 and you could get a bundle, some new games! | |

| I did the same to my PS3. Used the heat gun and the thermal compound. Fixed it in Septemeber and it had been broken since May! Lasted 4 months so far. I used a different tutorial on the internet though. Gilsky1. He had videos of how to put it back together as well which I found much more useful. | |
